Northeast of Patitiri is the sandy beach of Kokkinokastro (red castle) situated in a bay beneath an abruptly red cliff promontory.
Kokkinokastro is a white stone and pebble beach with clear deep blue waters. Nearby, remains of walls of the ancient city, the celebrated Ikos, have been excavated.
Opposite the beach, on the islet called Kokkinonisi (Red Island) or Vrahos (rock) tools from the Palaeolithic area were found; they are the earliest evidence of human life in the Aegean.
